10 Tips For Taking Care Of Thinning Hair.

How much hair do you have?

If you have thinning hair, it might not seem like a big deal to some people. But if you are self-conscious, that could make you feel less confident.

It’s important to know that as you grow older, your hair follicles will not produce new cells. This means the density of hairs on your head decreases with age.

The average person has about 100 thousand hairs per square inch. While some people have up towards 500kpsi (500000).

Blondes usually sport around 150kpsi, compare to brunettes who can expect 110kpis, and red heads only contain 90kpis. While African Americans have 100kpi.

What is hair loss?

It is normal for you to lose up to 100 or more hairs a day.

Hair loss is a common problem for both men and women. In fact, some estimates that 500 million people worldwide suffer from it!

The three phases of your hair’s life cycle include:

a) Growing phase when new growth occurs;

b) Transitioning period where old hairs is replaced by newer ones within two weeks,

c) Finally, the sluggish state, also known as resting period, which ends with shedding

Hair loss could be related to heredity, hormonal changes, aging or medical conditions.

You need to talk to your doctor if it becomes noticeable that you are shedding more than normal.

What is the meaning of hair thinning?

According to Healthline, “Thinning hair refers to minor to moderate hair loss, thinning hair doesn’t cause baldness. It does, yet, give the appearance of thinner spots of hair on your head”

Hair thinning is gradual, and this will give you time to find out the causes and find a remedy or prevention.


1. Home treatment.

Natural way to stimulate hair growth


Massaging your scalp can reduce stress, promote healing, and stimulate new hair growth.

A traditional scalp massage is a technique that involves the use of your fingertips.

Try using both hands to apply light pressure in small circles, working towards uncovering any knots or tension on top of your head using long smooth strokes from front to back.

You can massage your head while applying shampoo, and it will not take more than 5 minutes. This method is popular with busy people.

Essential oils to help prevent thinning

According to the NCBI study, lavender oil is helpful for your hair growth.

Other oils, such as rosemary or thymemixed with lavender, can help prevent thinning.

But there isn’t enough evidence that essential oil can help cure thinning hair.

More studies need to be done to understand if this product works on people’s hair loss issues.

If you want to proceed with essential oil, do a patch test to check for allergic reactions.

2.DIY temporary color hairstyles

You can have different style every day with wigs. If you are not into wigs, then go for hats or scarves.

Alternately, a tinted hair spray or colored powder can hide your thinning locks.

These temporary colors come with an applicator, like the eye shadow, and work in much the same way.

You choose a shade that matches your natural color. If there isn’t any, then test, matching the darkest roots!

3. Keep hair thick by using the right shampoo and conditioner.

Commercial brands of shampoos have harsh detergents that can damage your hair.

You can use a gentle shampoo containing moisturizers or herbs. This will help protect your hair against breakage.

Try to use a conditioner that does not have harsh detergents or chemicals.

The right conditioner will make your hair more manageable and prevent breakage. Also, it strengthens your hair’s strands to fight environmental pollution.

4.FDA cleared medication for hair loss prevention

Minoxidil, under the brand name of Rogaine, is for hair loss treatment approved by the FDA.

Another product for both men and women, experiencing thinning hair is Spironolactone.

Other popular medications are Finasteride, but only used by men.

All these mentioned products are available over the counter. Your need to check with your doctor, as side effects can happen.

5. Positive life style changes you need to make

To stop hair thinning, it is critical to change to a healthy lifestyle.

A healthy lifestyle includes eating a balanced diet, daily exercises, and much more.

Exercising daily helps promote circulation in your scalp. This stimulates the roots of your hair to keep it growing strong.

Your body system isn’t geared to handle chemicals and synthetics. It can create havoc in your gut. Also, the body will respond by triggering inflammation, weight gain, illness and hair loss.


6. How to style thinning hair?

American Academy of Dermalogy Association says layered cuts can make hair look full.

They advised not to use wigs, as they are bulky and inauthentic.

Instead, you should sweep thin hair into a bun or use clip-ons for a more subtle hairstyle.

You can also try using combs designed to sit on top of the crown piece.

Next, you push your hair back away from your face, so that you don’t end up with flyaways in your eyes.

7. Balance your diet to get healthy hair.

Hair loss can be caused by a lack of nutritious food.

You need to eat the food that is good for you.

Every day, you should eat food that has all the nutrients you need. Such as vitamins (B-complex),  proteins (like omega-3 fatty acids) and minerals like iron.

8. Will your hair thicken after taking vitamins?

If your hair is thinning and you want to grow it back, you can take these vitamins to help your diet.

  • Vitamin D will stimulate your dormant follicles. Biotin strengthens skin cells and helps you get iron from meat or eggs, so that your hair grows.
  • Vitamin E is excellent for stress. Take it if you are under stress. It helps new hair grow faster during puberty (and beyond).
  • Vitamin C helps your body use glucose, which makes you healthy.

9. Should you visit a doctor if your hair starts thinning or falling out?

It’s a tough decision whether you should consult your doctor if your hair is thinning.

You can lose all your hair caused by a disease called alopecia areata. It is rare, but found in 1 out of 100,000 people.

Or it can happen because there is not enough iron for your body to build healthy cells.

This is true for women who menstruate and need more nutrients during this period.

Another possibility could be you lack Vitamin D, which can lead to malnutrition.

There are many causes that can trigger the thinning of your hair. Rather than guess the causes, get it checked before they become full-blown conditions.

10. Hair loss equipment that may help.

You may have heard of laser combs, brushes and hoods that help with your thinning locks.

According to widespread belief, these gadgets absorb light at specific wavelengths. It stimulates hair follicles to create more stands.

Yet, there is insufficient evidence that they reduce or prevent balding, so it’s best not to rely on them as a cure all.

It’s important to be aware of the many possible causes for hair loss and how it can manifest.

Telogen effluvium is a condition in which your hair stops growing and falls out. Often, it is because of stress.

Stress-induced telogen effluvium (TE) affects both males and females.
