It is common knowledge that a woman takes good care of her hair.
The best way to ensure your locks are healthy is by using the right Hair Care products, taking good care of them in the shower, and styling them with heat protection.
So it’s surprising that many men neglect their tresses! But you don’t have to be one of those guys who don’t know how to take care of his hair.
In this blog post, I will discuss what you need to do if you want your hair looking its best – from washing it correctly, cutting out tangles, and styling tips for different styles.
What hair products should you use?
Here are some products to consider.
Wax is thick. There are many products sold that are thick wax and suitable for shaping hair. Wax is too heavy for thin or long hair and it can take some work to wash it out of your hair when you’re done with it.
Pastes and putties are often variations on wax.
Pomade gives greasers that wet slicked back look – it’s thick like wax, but creamier, easier to distribute. It controls unruly hair and adds smoothness. It makes your hair look shinier and wetter.
Serum is perfect for dry or frizzy hair. Adds shine and softness.
Cream adds extra shine control over coarse hairs.
Gel gives hair a wet look. It can dry out hair and cause build-up, so use it sparingly.
Mousse is remarkable for volume control on thin hair that’s starting to go flat. It won’t make your hair greasy, but will leave behind a residue if too much is applied.
Powder is like mousse, but more intense in the hold department – not recommended for anyone with fine hair, as it could weigh down or flatten strands easily.
Finally, remember that these aren’t hard-and-fast categories; there’s a lot of overlap between waxes/pomades/etc., from brand to brand.
Pomade is different from wax. Wax has beeswax in it, which makes it different. Pomades are sometimes called “waxy pomades.” It’s worth remembering this when utilizing them, because they are not the same thing.
While pomades are traditionally used on mustaches, they’re now being marketed as hair products for men in general.
Avoid confusing labels and trust your instincts when buying or using a product – if it looks like wax and feels like wax, but the label says “hair gel,” put it back! Hair gels have alcohol as their base while true pomades don’t. Keep that in mind when deciding on the product.
How to style your hair?
- Sleek – Start with a clean, damp head of hair. If you have thin or fine hair, consider using a volumizing shampoo and conditioner before styling.
Take about two fingers’ worth of product of pomades (use more if you’re attempting for the pompadour style) and work on rubbing it between your hands. Apply to the tip and rood of the hair in the front, sides and back of your head.
Finally, comb to get the style you want.
- Messy – Roughly towel-dry hair after a shower, or rinse with cold water while still in the bathtub.
Don’t rub your hair dry; instead, use your fingers like “brushes” so that it’s not completely soaked, as you style. Use about two fingers to take a pea size of pomades and rub it between your hands until it emulsifiers.
Then rub your hand in a circular motion into your hair to emphasize that messy look you are after.
- Volume look – Wet your hair and then apply a volumizing product.
Use the blow-dryer to blow the back hair down. Use the blow-dryer to lift the front hair with your fingers or a brush to create volume, then use hairspray for that perfect finish.
Volume + Volume – This is very easy; simply take two different types of products and apply them from roots to ends.
You can either: Use a mousse at the root, followed by spray gel on top, or vice versa, depending on what you’re looking for in terms of look/finish etc…
Observation: Don’t put too many products in your hair. It will weigh down your hair and make the style not work.
What hairstyles work for you?
Unlike girls, men cannot style their hair in many ways. While experimenting with different hairstyles, keep your face shape in mind and choose the one that complements your appearance.
A man should know if he has a round, oval, square, oval or triangular face shape, and chooses his hairstyle accordingly.
So, the next time you go for a new chop, keep your face shape in mind and choose the style that compliments your overall look.
If you are still confused or unsure which hairstyle suits you, check with your hair stylist.
The best way to keep your beard and mustache trim?
Shave the area below your chin – you should shave off the hair from your Adam apple down to the top of your chest.
Under your ear – do shave the hair from beneath your ear.
Remove Ear or Nose Hairs – you need to get the hairs out of your nose and ears. Use a pair of tweezers.
Above the beard-lip line – to hit this area, you turn slightly your neck and run the trimmer from your beard line up to the top of the ear.
Mustaches need to be neat – remove the hairs growing on top and outside of your mustache. There should not be any hair below or outside your mustache.
Trim any outgrown beard or mustache hair – in case you have some extra hair on your cheekbones that is not part of your beard style, do make sure this is cut by using an adjustable beard clipper within straight lines. Keep it tidy always!
How can you care for your hair daily?
There are some simple steps that you can routinely follow to take care of your hair daily. You can start by trimming your hair regularly.
Next, comb your hair thoroughly and protect it from heat damage by applying heat protectants like moisturiser and conditioner. Lightly blow-dry your hair and re-apply heat protectants again before heat styling.
Try to use all-natural care products for the best results in maintaining healthy-looking hair.
You should also care for your scalp by washing it at least once a week.
Limit the use of heat styling tools to protect hair from damage, and always remember that less is more! Always make time to treat your hair at least once a week so you can have healthy-looking locks all year round.

How can you improve your hair’s health?
Here are some basic tips on how to improve your hair’s health.
First, stop using so much shampoo, as this will strip your hair of its natural oils and make it feel dry. Limit yourself to washing your hair only twice a week, or depending on how oily your scalp is.
Also, try to avoid applying heat products, such as straighteners, because they can damage your locks. Instead, wear protective products before starting.
Remember to massage your scalp, as this will stimulate circulation, which can in turn increase hair growth.
Protect your locks from the sun by wearing a hat or scarf, and apply aloe to make it feel smoother and softer.
You could also try making an egg yolk mask with two eggs, one tablespoon of honey, half cup olive oil and half cup coconut milk. Apply generously on your hair. This is a simple recipe you can make at home.
